ICE CREAM SOCIAL
July 16, 5 to 8 PM at Fairlawn ~

Old fashioned family fun includes food and horse-drawn carriage rides at "yesteryear" prices, music, games, cake walk and free tours of the mansion. Last tour departs at approximately 7:30 PM.  Free to the public.  Our "thank you" for continued support from the community. RAIN DATE:  Thursday, July 17th.

 

Summer Garden Tour & Talk
Tuesday, July 29 from 4 - 7 pm.
We've arranged a visit to the gardens of Bill and Ernestine Ziebarth, high atop Duluth's Observation Hill.  This impressive garden landscape beautifully demonstrates the concepts of our Winter Series Garden Talks. Rain Date, Wednesday July 30.

Three of our garden and landscape experts will be on hand to answer your questions about gardening in the Northland.  Don't miss this rare opportunity to see and experience the delights of a well designed and tended garden.

Children's Home Panel Discussion
Tuesday, August 5, 2008 7:00 pm at Fairlawn Mansion
In recognition of unique period in Fairlawn's history, when it served as the Superior Children's Home and Refuge (SCHR), former residents will share recollections of their years at the mansion.  Moderated by Konnie LeMay, Managing Editor of Lake Superior Magazine, the discussion will be followed with a tour conducted by longtime resident and then employee of the SCHR, Jean (Soderlund) Hennessy.  Hennessy's tour will focus on the Children's Home years.

This event is free and open to the public, however space is limited.

Children's Garden Celebration
Thursday, August 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Superior Public Museums is opening the Children's Garden at Fairlawn Mansion. Bring the kids and join in activities hosted by local businesses and organizations including:

The Children's Garden Celebration will also feature the release of a new children's book, Oatmeal for Breakfast  based on the history of the Superior Children's Home & Refuge. Readings of the book will be held at 6:15 and 7:15 pm.
Installation of the garden began in June and will continue through 2009.  When completed, the Children's Garden will include child friendly features including a kangaroo topiary, hopscotch board and tea table.
